Cleft Lip Fillers

Restore symmetry and volume to the lips with dermal filler, enhancing the shape and definition for a balanced and natural-looking appearance in cleft lip correction.

Treatment time: 45 mins - 1 hour

What is Cleft Lip Filler?

Cleft lip filler involves the use of dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, to restore volume, shape and symmetry to lips affected by a cleft. This treatment helps to smooth uneven areas, enhance definition, and create a more balanced appearance between the upper and lower lips.

As hyaluronic acid is biocompatible and safely absorbed by the body over time, it is considered a safe and temporary solution. Results can last up to 6 months, offering a non-surgical option for improved lip contour and confidence.

The Benefits of Cleft Lip Filler

Improved Symmetry

Helps create a more even and balanced appearance by restoring volume where tissue may be lacking.

Natural-Looking Results

Blends seamlessly with your natural lip structure for subtle yet effective enhancement.

Boosted Confidence

Enhances overall lip contour, helping clients feel more comfortable and confident in their appearance.

How Does Cleft Lip Filler Work?

To begin, the treatment area is thoroughly cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied to ensure your comfort. Once numbed, small amounts of hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler are carefully injected into targeted areas of the cleft lip using a fine needle. This helps restore lost volume, improve lip symmetry, and enhance definition around the lip border and philtrum.

The filler integrates naturally into the lip tissue, creating a smoother, more balanced appearance. As hyaluronic acid is already found in the body, this treatment is considered very safe and temporary, typically lasting between 3 to 6 months, depending on your body’s metabolism.

Important Notes

  • Please arrive with no makeup on the day of your appointment and avoid reapplying makeup for 24 hours after treatment to reduce the risk of infection.

  • While there is minimal downtime, it’s essential to follow aftercare instructions carefully. For 24 hours post-treatment, avoid touching the area, engaging in intense exercise, or exposing yourself to excessive heat (e.g., steam rooms, sunbeds, saunas). Avoid alcohol and refrain from placing pressure on the lips for one week.

Pre-Treatment Advice

  • Do not proceed with injectable treatments if you are feeling unwell.

  • If you’ve previously had filler in the cleft lip area from another clinic, please know the name of the product used.

  • Avoid alcohol, painkillers like ibuprofen (unless prescribed), and supplements such as fish oil, St. John’s Wort, or vitamins A–E for 7 days prior, as these can increase the risk of bruising.

  • Refrain from using active skincare ingredients (e.g., retinol, glycolic acid) or hair removal treatments near the area for at least 2 days before.

  • Consider taking Arnica tablets two days prior to help reduce potential bruising (optional).

You Should Not Have This Treatment If You:

  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning pregnancy

  • Have active cold sores, bacterial infections, or are currently on antibiotics

  • Have had recent or upcoming invasive dental work (allow at least 4 weeks)

  • Have had recent skin treatments near the injection area (wait 4 weeks)

  • Have an autoimmune condition like lupus (doctor’s note required)

  • Are not at least 6 months clear of cancer (doctor’s note required)

FAQ’s

Are there any side effects with cleft lip filler?

Yes, you may experience mild bruising, swelling, redness or tenderness around the injection site, which typically subsides within 72 hours. Any unevenness due to swelling or lip movement can be assessed and corrected if needed.

How long does swelling last after cleft lip filler?

Swelling is most noticeable within the first 48 hours and usually settles within 5–7 days. Cold compresses may help reduce swelling. Final results are best assessed around 4 weeks post-treatment.

Does cleft lip filler treatment hurt?

The procedure can be slightly uncomfortable, but numbing cream is applied beforehand to minimise discomfort. Most clients describe the sensation as tolerable rather than painful.

Is cleft lip filler treatment safe?

Yes, cleft lip filler uses hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, which are naturally broken down by the body. It’s considered a very safe and temporary treatment when performed by a trained professional.

How long does cleft lip filler last?

The effects typically last between 3 to 6 months, depending on your individual metabolism and how quickly your body absorbs the hyaluronic acid.

Will my lips feel normal after cleft lip filler?

Yes, once swelling and any tenderness have settled (usually within a week), your lips will feel soft and natural.

Can the filler go lumpy or uneven?

Temporary lumps can occur due to swelling or filler movement, especially in delicate areas like cleft lips. These usually resolve on their own but can be massaged or dissolved if needed.

Do both lips need to be treated with cleft lip filler?

Not always. Depending on your cleft lip anatomy and goals, filler may be applied more heavily on one side to create balance. This will be fully discussed during your consultation.

How soon after treatment can I wax or shave above the upper lip?

To avoid irritation, wait at least 2 weeks after treatment before waxing or shaving the upper lip area.
